I was sitting in the Doctor’s surgery this afternoon, waiting for my appointment, reading on my Kindle. No. I still have not finished reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Anyway, an elderly woman got up off of her seat, wandered over and sat next to me.

“Excuse me dear, what are you reading on?” she said once she was settled. She smelt just like my Gran, a mixture of mothballs and rosewater… was lovely.

“It’s a Kindle reader, have you seen one before?” I replied to her, quite happy to chat to anyone when they’re being nice.

“My children are giving me money for my birthday this year, and I thought I might buy one of those. Now tell me, how do you get the books on there… is it through Amazon?”

I must admit - I was at this point very interested in her and stunned.

“Well, you can buy them through Amazon and organise them through your computer in that way… I must admit I’ve been a bit naughty and have downloaded alot of them - bought some - and just transfer them over to my Kindle on my laptop.”

“Do you use a Mac?” She said. HOLY CRAP THIS WAS AWESOME.

“Yes! You just plug the Kindle into the computer using a USB cable and it comes up as a hard drive. This one is also WiFi so purchases through Amazon just come across when it’s connected. It’s really easy to do”

“Now tell me, do you use isohunt or something else”

It was then that we started chatting about all things Kindle purchasing, the size of the text on the screen and downloading content. She started telling me about how she has a hard drive that she can watch on her tv and it’s so much better than the rubbish on free television - of which I have to agree with her - and then she said this absolute cracker at which point I fell in love with her.

“I figure I can download as many movies, or as much music as I want - at 94 years old they’re not likely to throw me in prison!”

What a bloody legend of a woman. Her husband was sitting across from me smiling and shaking his head. It was so cute.

So yeah, that made me really smile today. I thought I’d share.
